RH Aero and Sabena technics Complete First Regular A350-900 Main Landing Gear Change with LGX MultiSystem
Bordeaux, Frankreich – April 2026 – Sabena technics and RH Aero Systems have successfully completed the first regular main landing gear change on an Airbus A350-900 using the LGX MultiSystem. The operation was carried out between March 23rd and March 31st, 2026, marking an important next step in the operational use of RH Aero’s ground-based landing gear change solution for wide-body aircraft.
The landing gear removal and installation was performed by Sabena technics BOD using a newly defined process developed in close cooperation between Sabena technics , Airbus, Safran and RH Aero. The joint working party focused on establishing a new standard for main landing gear replacement on the A350 platform.
During the operation, the landing gear removal and installation was completed with the side stay installed and retracted. By supporting and positioning the gear entirely from the ground, the LGX MultiSystem enabled a controlled and accurate process throughout the procedure. This helped improve operator safety, reduce risk to the aircraft and simplify coordination during a critical maintenance event.
Sabena technics BOD installed the new gear in approximately 1.5 hours without issues. The result underlines the speed, precision and repeatability of the LGX MultiSystem in an in-service MRO environment.
“Seeing the LGX MultiSystem perform its first regular A350-900 main landing gear change together with Sabena technics BOD is a very important milestone for us,” said Frank Willmann, Product Manager for the LGX MultiSystem at RH Aero Systems. “This project shows what is possible when MRO, OEM and industry partners work closely together to redefine an established maintenance process. The ability to perform the gear change in a controlled ground-based setup, with the side stay remaining installed, is exactly where the LGX delivers its value: improved safety for operators, reduced risk for the aircraft and a faster, more standardized workflow for the customer, that cannot be replicated with any other solution on the market.”
The LGX MultiSystem is RH Aero Systems’ fully electric, ground-based solution for main landing gear removal and installation on wide-body aircraft. With the LGX MultiSystem, we enable controlled X/Y/Z movement, live load monitoring, reduced crane dependency, and compatibility across the Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380 as well as the Boeing 777 and 787 families. We have already reached important LGX milestones on the 787-8, 777-200 and an A330 validation with an installation time of about 90 minutes under controlled load monitoring.
This latest achievement further expands the proven application of the LGX MultiSystem and supports the continued development of standardized, ground-based landing gear change methods for major wide-body fleets. With the LGX, we help reduce labor intensity, improve on-site safety, and shorten turnaround time compared with conventional crane-based methods.
